Tour of the Valiant
The Valiant is Catalina Island's most famous shipwreck. The 163 feet
long, 444 ton steel motor yacht was built in 1926 and at her time, she was one
of the largest private yachts in the world.
On December 17, 1930, the Valiant exploded and burned, then sank off Descanso
Beach. It was reported that there was a loss of $67,000.00 in jewels and to this
day, the jewels were never recovered.
The wreck lies perpendicular to the shore, listing to the port side on a sandy
bottom. Her bow lies in 110 feet of water.
This dive is for advanced divers only!
Tour of the Valiant includes: Your guide, a knowledgeable and experienced instructor,
scuba equipment and wetsuit. Participants must show a log book of deep, cold-water
dives.
Please allow approximately 2 hours for the tour and reservations are required.
The price for this tour is $150.00 for a private dive or $130.00 for 2 or more participants. |

Night Diving
When you go night diving you'll see a whole new world. Even the Avalon
Underwater Park takes on a new personality at night, as many underwater creatures
and plant life (different from those you see during the day) are active at night.
You'll learn night dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and
potential problems. You'll also learn how to control your buoyancy, navigate
and communicate at night. Since many of the plants and animals you'll see are
different, you'll also get an introduction to nocturnal aquatic life.
Your tour includes: Your guide, a knowledgeable and experienced instructor
and an expert on Catalina Island marine life, scuba equipment and wet suit. Participants
must show proof of certification.
Please allow approximately 3 hours for the tour and reservations are required.
The price for this tour is $150.00 for a private dive or $130.00 for 2 or more participants. |
